Nubra, Sep 9: The Ladakh administration on Wednesday warned traders against selling rotten or otherwise unfit non-vegetarian food items, after a large quantity of rotten chicken and fish was seized from a shop in Diskit market of Nubra district.
An official said that acting on a report regarding the sale of rotten chicken and fish in Diskit Market, Tehsildar Diskit, Tashi Jorgais, issued an order under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, directing the immediate removal and disposal of the unfit food items.
As per the order, a shopkeeper, Bilal Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, resident of Kulgam, Srinagar, was found engaged in the sale and supply of rotten chicken and fish at his shop, Bilal Chicken Shop, located at Diskit, Nubra. The food items were found unfit for human consumption and posed a serious threat to public health.
The order directed that the rotten chicken and fish stored or displayed for sale be removed and disposed of immediately in accordance with the prescribed procedure. It further directed that no rotten, stale or otherwise unfit food items shall be stored, displayed or sold in the market in future.
The official said the seized food items were subsequently disposed of safely and in accordance with the prescribed procedure, ensuring that they posed no risk or danger to human beings or animals.
The disposal was carried out in the presence of the TSO Diskit, Chhering Tundup, FCS&CA Department, a Patwari from the Revenue Department, police personnel and sanitary inspectors.
The Tehsildar also warned that any failure to comply with the order or any recurrence of such violations would invite appropriate action under the relevant provisions of law, official added.
