RAJOURI, OCT 28: Security forces busted a suspected terrorist hideout in a remote forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday, recovering grenades, ammunition and other items during a search operation in the upper reaches of Kotranka subdivision, officials said.
The hideout was unearthed by the Rashtriya Rifles during a cordon-and-search operation in the Doba Gali area, a forested and remote stretch of the district. The recovery of a substantial quantity of ammunition and explosive ordnance prompted security forces to continue the operation to check the surrounding area for any further concealed material or possible leads.
According to officials, the seized items included four Under-Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) rounds, three hand grenades, 237 rounds of AK assault rifle ammunition, 101 belted rounds of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition and 16 pistol rounds.
The recovery also included an AK rifle bayonet, a bag and a sheet, suggesting that the location had been used to store supplies or equipment. However, officials did not immediately disclose how long the hideout had remained in use or whether the recovered material was linked to any specific militant group.
No arrests were made during the operation, officials said, adding that the search was continuing when the latest reports were received.
The operation assumes significance in the context of security efforts to detect concealed militant infrastructure in the forested and mountainous areas of the Rajouri region. Such searches are aimed at locating hidden weapons and ammunition caches and identifying possible support networks that could facilitate militant movement or activities.
Security personnel were continuing to search the area for additional recoveries and other clues. Further details are awaited as the operation progresses.
