JAMMU, OCT 28: Geeta University has launched the Pragati Scholarship scheme for students from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, offering scholarships of up to 100% to eligible candidates to promote access to higher education and help students overcome financial barriers.

The scholarship initiative was announced during an educational meet organised by the university at Hotel Vivanta, Jammu, which brought together more than 150 school principals from across the Jammu region for an interactive session on higher education, academic opportunities and students’ career prospects.

The programme witnessed the participation of senior BJP leader Ravinder Raina, Pandit Munish Sharma, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta, MLA Marh Surinder Bhagat, Senior Advocate Ankur Sharma and youth leader Partap Singh Jamwal, along with other distinguished guests.

A key feature of the Pragati Scholarship scheme is the provision for eligible students to avail themselves of financial assistance on the recommendation of their local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) or Member of Parliament (MP), without additional formalities, as outlined by the university. The initiative is intended to benefit students across religious communities, castes and geographical regions, with the objective of making higher education more accessible and inclusive.

The university stated that the initiative seeks to support deserving students in pursuing their academic ambitions, irrespective of their social or regional backgrounds. By offering scholarships of up to 100%, the scheme aims to ease the financial burden on families and enable students to explore higher educational opportunities.

Addressing the gathering, Geeta University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vinod expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests and participating school principals for their presence and contribution to the interaction. He underscored the importance of regular engagement between universities and school leadership in guiding students towards suitable academic programmes and career pathways.

The educational meet also served as a platform for strengthening coordination between schools and higher education institutions, with discussions centred on expanding educational opportunities and helping students make informed decisions about their future.

The university reiterated that the Pragati Scholarship is intended to extend educational support to students from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, encouraging young people from diverse backgrounds to pursue higher studies and realise their potential.

Dr. Prerna Darwar, Director of Training and Marketing; Dr. Rajat Sachdeva, Assistant Director; and Vishal Raina, Assistant Manager, were also present at the programme.

The scholarship initiative is expected to draw the attention of students and families seeking financial support for higher education. Applicants should confirm the eligibility criteria, applicable courses, scholarship coverage and admission requirements directly with the university before applying.
