JAMMU, OCT 29: J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma on Thursday accused the Congress of relying on political slogans and repeated campaigns instead of offering constructive solutions to public issues, asserting that such strategies would not mislead the people. He made these remarks while addressing a seminar on “Save Democracy, Eliminate Anarchy”, organised by the BJP Jammu Border District to promote awareness about democratic values, the sanctity of elections and the importance of maintaining public confidence in constitutional institutions.
The seminar witnessed the participation of intellectuals, prominent citizens, representatives of various sections of society and BJP workers, who deliberated on the need to preserve democratic principles, encourage responsible political discourse and uphold the credibility of India’s electoral system.
Sat Sharma attended the programme alongside MLA Rajiv Bhagat, former MLA Ashwani Sharma and BJP Jammu Border District President Rinku Choudhary.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, alleging that its political activities were largely centred on slogans, yatras and campaigns that failed to offer meaningful solutions to the challenges facing the country. He accused the opposition of repeatedly attempting to revive its political fortunes through new initiatives rather than engaging in constructive debate on issues of public importance.
“The Congress party continues to revolve around its single family, making repeated attempts to relaunch the most privileged person through one political campaign after another,” Sharma said, adding that the party’s campaigns often failed to gain sustained public traction.
Sharma said safeguarding democracy was a collective responsibility that extended beyond political parties and required active participation from citizens, intellectuals, professionals and community representatives. He stressed that democratic institutions could function effectively only when public confidence in the constitutional framework and electoral process remained strong.
Calling for greater public awareness, the BJP leader urged people to examine political claims critically, counter misinformation and promote discussions based on facts. He emphasised that respect for the people’s mandate was fundamental to democratic governance and that efforts to strengthen institutional credibility must remain a priority.
MLA Rajiv Bhagat, addressing the seminar, said that voters were the ultimate authority in a democracy and that their mandate deserved respect. He argued that allegations concerning the electoral process should be supported by credible evidence, cautioning that unsubstantiated claims could weaken public trust in democratic institutions.
Bhagat also called for greater participation in democratic awareness initiatives at the grassroots level, saying that an informed electorate was essential for ensuring accountability and strengthening the democratic system.
Former MLA Ashwani Sharma highlighted the importance of transparency, responsible political behaviour and informed public participation. He said adherence to constitutional principles and respect for democratic institutions were indispensable for maintaining public confidence in governance.
BJP Jammu Border District President Rinku Choudhary said the party would continue to organise seminars and similar initiatives to encourage constructive, fact-based discussions on democratic values and institutional accountability. He emphasised the importance of engaging citizens in discussions that promote awareness about their democratic rights and responsibilities.
The seminar underscored the BJP’s call for strengthening public faith in democratic institutions, respecting electoral outcomes and encouraging responsible political engagement. The party maintained that sustained public awareness and constructive dialogue were essential to preserving the credibility of India’s democratic framework.
