AMRITSAR, OCT 30: In a major crackdown on organised criminal networks, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling network, arresting eight accused and recovering 11 pistols, four live cartridges and 2.293 kg of heroin.
The operation has exposed alleged links between drug traffickers, illegal arms suppliers and foreign-based handlers, highlighting the suspected cross-border connections of the criminal network operating in the region.
According to preliminary investigation, the arrested accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers who facilitated the supply of illegal weapons for their further distribution among criminal elements. Investigators are examining the network’s operational structure, including the sources of the weapons and the channels through which narcotics were being transported and distributed.
Police have registered three FIRs at Police Stations Chheharta and A-Division in Amritsar in connection with the recoveries and arrests.
The investigation has been further intensified to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network, identify its wider criminal connections and trace other individuals allegedly involved in the illegal activities.
The recovery of 11 pistols alongside a substantial quantity of heroin marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to curb organised drug trafficking and illegal arms circulation.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking and illegal weapons networks, taking strict action against organised criminal elements and strengthening efforts towards a safer and drug-free Punjab.
