Srinagar, Sep 03: In a crucial step toward resolving the political and governance deadlocks in the region, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has convened a high-stakes sub-committee meeting with representatives from Ladakh on September 9 in New Delhi.
“Ministry of Home Affairs has fixed an official meeting of the sub committee on 9th September in Delhi. This is part of the ongoing dialogue for deepening democratic processes in Ladakh,” Chief Secretary Ladakh Ashish Kundra said.
In an official communique addressed to the Chief Secretary Ladakh, the MHA has requested to inform the members of the Sub-Committee accordingly and their confirmation may be intimated to this Ministry.
The meeting will focus on establishing a formal, customized democratic structure for the Union Territory, addressing key demands regarding legislative, executive, and financial powers, as well as constitutional safeguards.
The talks come on the heels of sustained efforts between central officials and joint delegations representing the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA).
Both groups recently submitted a joint memorandum outlining their core expectations to Ladakh administration officials, emphasizing the need for an empowered UT-level elected body and unconditional withdrawal of all cases against those affected by the 24 September incident, along with dignified and adequate compensation for the victims and their families.
