Srinagar, Oct 7: The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) J&K has welcomed the Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department’s decision to provide a one-time, time-bound three-month facilitation period to eligible automobile dealers who have already initiated the statutory process for obtaining Trade Certificates.
A delegation led by FADA J&K Chairperson Sanjay Aggarwal met Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Mahajan and expressed appreciation for the department’s decision, describing it as a step towards improving the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) environment for automobile dealers in the Union Territory.
The facilitation applies to eligible dealers who have submitted their prescribed applications through the VAHAN portal and deposited the requisite fee. They will get an additional three months to complete pending documentation, inspection and other statutory formalities.
“We sincerely thank the Transport Commissioner, J&K, for considering the concerns of the automobile dealer fraternity and bringing this practical and time-bound facilitation. This decision reflects a progressive and business-friendly approach and will provide much-needed relief to dealers who have already initiated the Trade Certificate process,” Aggarwal said.
He said the automobile sector has emerged as an important component of J&K’s economy, contributing to employment generation, government revenue, consumer services and the wider automotive ecosystem.
Aggarwal said further reforms were needed to strengthen EoDB and encourage investment in the sector. “Ease of Doing Business should not only mean digitisation of applications but should also ensure time-bound approvals, clear documentation requirements, uniform interpretation of rules and minimal physical interaction,” he said.
FADA J&K said it has been consistently raising issues concerning automobile dealers with the government and various departments to make regulatory compliance simpler and more transparent.
The federation urged all eligible dealers to utilise the three-month facilitation period and complete pending statutory requirements within the prescribed timeline. It clarified that the order does not constitute an exemption or waiver from obtaining a Trade Certificate, and dealers must comply with all applicable statutory provisions.
