ANANTNAG, OCT 8: Continuing its intensified crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered approximately 3 grams of heroin-like substance during a naka checking operation at Mattan Adda, officials said on Thursday.
The action was carried out by a police party from Police Station Anantnag, which intercepted a suspect during routine checking and subjected him to a personal search. The accused was identified as Umair Nabi Shah, son of Gh Nabi Shah, a resident of Marwah, Kishtwar, presently residing at Donipawa.
During the search, police recovered around 3 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession, leading to his arrest. The recovery assumes significance amid continued efforts by law-enforcement agencies to disrupt the local supply network and prevent the circulation of narcotic substances among vulnerable sections, particularly youth.
Following the recovery, a case has been registered at Police Station Anantnag under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation has been initiated to establish the source of the contraband and ascertain whether the accused has links with a wider drug distribution network.
Police said the investigation would also focus on identifying other individuals who may be involved in the supply chain.
Anantnag Police reiterated that its anti-narcotics campaign would continue with sustained checking, surveillance and legal action against individuals involved in the possession, transportation and distribution of illegal drugs.
