RAJOURI, OCT 20: An abandoned grenade was detected near a temple in the remote Chattyar village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday, prompting an immediate response from police and a bomb disposal squad. The explosive device was subsequently destroyed in a controlled explosion at an isolated location nearby, with officials confirming that no damage was reported.

According to officials, the grenade came to notice when some children playing near the temple spotted the suspicious object among construction material in the area. Following the discovery, the village head informed the local police station, triggering a prompt security response to prevent any potential threat to residents.

A police team, accompanied by a specialised bomb disposal squad, was rushed to the village to assess the situation and secure the area. After examining the explosive device, the team shifted the operation to an isolated location, where the grenade was destroyed through a controlled explosion as a precautionary measure.

The timely intervention ensured that the potentially dangerous object was neutralised without any reported damage. The incident, however, raised questions about how an explosive device reached a remote residential area, particularly in the vicinity of a religious place frequented by local residents.

Police have launched an investigation to establish the origin of the grenade and determine the circumstances under which it was brought into the village. A preliminary assessment suggests that the device may have arrived inadvertently with construction material transported to the area. However, the circumstances are being investigated, and the suspected link has not yet been conclusively established.

The discovery also underscores the importance of alertness and timely reporting when suspicious objects are found in residential areas. Police response teams acted after receiving information from the village head, enabling the device to be dealt with without any reported casualties or property damage.

The grenade has been destroyed, while the investigation remains underway to determine its source and how it reached Chattyar village.
