NEW DELHI, OCT 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid heartfelt tributes to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, honouring their courage, dedication and supreme sacrifice on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to police personnel for their unwavering commitment to protecting the nation and safeguarding citizens, acknowledging the demanding circumstances in which they perform their duties.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Modi said Police Commemoration Day provides an opportunity for the nation to express its deepest gratitude to police personnel for their remarkable dedication and selfless service.
From maintaining law and order and combating crime to responding to emergencies and ensuring the safety and security of citizens, police personnel play a vital role in preserving peace and stability across the country. Their contribution, often delivered under challenging conditions, remains indispensable to the effective functioning of society.
The Prime Minister’s tribute also brought attention to the supreme sacrifices made by police personnel while discharging their responsibilities. Their courage, professionalism and sense of duty reflect the highest traditions of public service, while their sacrifices continue to inspire serving personnel and future generations.
Observed annually on October 21, Police Commemoration Day honours police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The day commemorates the killing of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
Across the country, the occasion is marked by solemn ceremonies and tributes to the fallen personnel, recognising the contribution of police forces to national security, law enforcement and public safety.
Beyond commemorating the martyrs, the day serves as a reminder of the risks undertaken by police personnel and the responsibilities they shoulder to protect lives, maintain order and uphold the rule of law.
The Prime Minister’s message reaffirmed the importance of honouring the sacrifices of police personnel and acknowledging the families who continue to bear the pain of losing their loved ones in service to the nation. Their courage and sacrifice remain an enduring symbol of duty, dedication and commitment to the people of India.
