ANANTNAG, OCT 21: Anantnag Police on Wednesday observed Police Commemoration Day-2026 at District Police Lines (DPL), Anantnag, paying rich tributes to police martyrs whose courage and supreme sacrifices continue to inspire the force in its mission to safeguard peace, uphold the law and protect the lives of citizens.
The solemn observance began with a ceremonial parade, during which Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Matoo, and Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure, took the salute. A two-minute silence was observed in honour of the brave personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din, officers from the Police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), representatives of the Civil Administration and family members of police martyrs participated in the ceremony, reflecting a collective expression of respect and gratitude towards the fallen heroes.
The dignitaries and other participants laid floral tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial within DPL Anantnag, remembering the personnel whose dedication to duty and commitment to public safety culminated in the supreme sacrifice. The ceremony underscored the enduring responsibility of the police fraternity and society to preserve the legacy of those who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.
Moving beyond ceremonial tributes, Anantnag Police also organised a blood donation camp at DPL Anantnag, in which a large number of police officers and officials participated enthusiastically. The initiative highlighted the humanitarian dimension of policing and the importance of contributing to society through voluntary service and life-saving efforts.
In a special gesture of recognition and solidarity, the families of police martyrs were felicitated and presented with gifts. The gesture acknowledged the immense sacrifices borne by these families and reaffirmed the importance of extending respect, care and support to those who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.
Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 in remembrance of police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while discharging their responsibilities. The day marks the killing of ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959.
The observance in Anantnag served as a solemn reminder that the legacy of police martyrs lives on through the continued dedication of serving personnel. The ceremony brought together security forces, civil administration and bereaved families in a shared commitment to honouring the fallen heroes and upholding the values of courage, duty and selfless service.
