GANDERBAL, OCT 21: In a tribute to the supreme sacrifices of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty, Ganderbal Police on Wednesday inaugurated the Police Martyrs Volleyball Tournament at District Police Lines (DPL), Ganderbal, bringing together local teams and sports enthusiasts to honour the legacy of the fallen heroes.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by DySP DAR Ganderbal Altaf Khan, in the presence of participating teams and sports enthusiasts. Eight teams are taking part in the competition, reflecting enthusiasm for sports and a shared commitment to promoting teamwork, discipline and healthy competition among youth.
The inaugural match witnessed an energetic contest between Gutlibagh and Khurhama, with Gutlibagh emerging victorious by defeating Khurhama 2–0 to begin its campaign on a winning note.
Beyond the sporting competition, the tournament carries a message of remembrance and respect for police martyrs whose courage, dedication and unwavering commitment to duty continue to inspire generations. By organising the event, Ganderbal Police has sought to keep alive the memory of these brave personnel while encouraging young people to pursue constructive and productive activities.
The initiative also forms part of Ganderbal Police’s broader efforts to promote sports culture, nurture local talent and strengthen police-public relations through community participation. Sporting events provide an important platform for young people to develop discipline, teamwork, mutual respect and a spirit of healthy competition.
Ganderbal Police reiterated its commitment to preserving the legacy of police martyrs while promoting unity, sportsmanship and positive engagement among youth.
The tournament underscores the message that remembering the fallen heroes is not limited to ceremonial tributes but also involves upholding the values of courage, discipline, dedication and service that defined their lives.
