JKBOSE scraps 20% minimum marks requirement for re-evaluation, opens door for more students

SRINAGAR, OCT 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has removed the requirement of securing a minimum of 20 per cent marks in a subject to apply for re-evaluation of answer scripts, providing greater access to the re-evaluation process for students who score below the previously prescribed threshold.

The decision, announced through a notification issued by the Board’s Academic Division on Wednesday, partially modifies an earlier notification dated May 29, 2006, under which candidates were eligible to seek re-evaluation only in subjects where they had secured at least 20 per cent of the total marks.

With the revision, students can now apply for re-evaluation irrespective of the marks obtained in the concerned subject, subject to compliance with the prescribed procedure, application deadlines and applicable fee.

The revised provision covers candidates appearing in the Secondary School Examination (Class 10), Higher Secondary Examination Part I (Class 11), Higher Secondary Examination Part II (Class 12), Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) and Jammu and Kashmir State Open School examinations for Classes 10 and 12.

The move removes an eligibility barrier that previously prevented candidates scoring below 20 per cent in a subject from seeking a review of their evaluated answer scripts. Under the revised arrangement, low marks alone will no longer disqualify a candidate from applying for re-evaluation.

The decision is expected to offer students greater opportunity to seek a review of their results in accordance with the Board’s established rules. However, the removal of the minimum-marks requirement does not mean automatic re-evaluation or a guaranteed change in marks, as candidates must still follow the prescribed application process.

JKBOSE has clarified that all other terms and conditions governing the re-evaluation process, as notified from time to time, will remain unchanged.

The notification has been issued by Director Academics Dr Parveen Singh and will have prospective effect, meaning the revised provision will apply going forward in accordance with the Board’s applicable directions.

The decision marks a change in the Board’s eligibility framework for re-evaluation, allowing candidates across the specified examinations to seek a review of their answer scripts without being restricted by the earlier 20 per cent minimum-marks condition.
