SHOPIAN, OCT 22: Shopian Police organised a volleyball tournament at Government Higher Secondary School, Imamsahib, as part of the ongoing Police Commemoration Day observances and week-long sports activities, paying tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The event brought together participating teams and local youth, combining remembrance of the fallen personnel with a message of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and community participation.
The tournament was inaugurated by DySP Police Component (PC) Imamsahib in the presence of the Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Imamsahib. The initiative was organised to honour the sacrifices of police martyrs while encouraging young people to participate in constructive activities that promote physical fitness, mutual respect and a spirit of healthy competition.
The participating teams displayed enthusiasm, coordination and competitive spirit throughout the sporting event. Both the winners and runners-up were felicitated in recognition of their performances, teamwork and participation. The recognition also encouraged young players to pursue sporting activities and develop qualities such as discipline, perseverance and collective responsibility.
The tournament formed part of the broader observance of Police Commemoration Day, through which police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation are remembered and honoured. By organising sporting activities in an educational institution, Shopian Police sought to connect the legacy of the martyrs with positive engagement among the younger generation.
Shopian Police reiterated its commitment to promoting sports and youth participation in constructive community activities. Such initiatives provide young people with opportunities to develop their abilities, channel their energy positively and strengthen bonds within their communities.
The police also emphasised the importance of public participation and police-community engagement in fostering an atmosphere of peace, unity and mutual trust. Sporting events, in particular, offer a platform for interaction between the police and local residents beyond routine law enforcement activities.
The tournament concluded with the felicitation of the participating teams, reaffirming the dual objective of remembering police martyrs and encouraging youth to embrace sportsmanship, discipline and social harmony.
