SRINAGAR, SEPT 11: Continuing its intensified campaign against drug trafficking, police in Kulgam and Anantnag arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances, including approximately 60 grams of heroin-like substance, during separate operations.
In Kulgam, a police party from Police Station Qazigund was conducting naka checking on the National Highway near the Navyug Tunnel when it intercepted an Alto K10 bearing temporary registration number JK01C-0049.
During checking of the vehicle, police recovered a polythene bag containing approximately 60 grams of heroin-like substance from a passenger travelling in the car. The passenger was identified as Sikandar Singh, son of Vasakha Singh, resident of Moga, Punjab, and was taken into custody.
Police subsequently registered FIR Number 20/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund. Investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband and identify other persons who may be linked to the suspected drug-trafficking network.
In a separate operation in Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Uttersoo apprehended Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohd Wani, resident of Panchalthan, Uttersoo, during checking at Buchan Crossing, Khanzaman.
During his search, police recovered cannabis from his possession. A case, FIR Number 92/2026, has been registered at Police Station Uttersoo under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation has been initiated.
Police said the twin operations underline its continued focus on disrupting the supply and distribution of narcotic substances in the region. Authorities reiterated that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in the possession, transportation and trafficking of drugs.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting information related to the illegal trade and distribution of narcotic substances.
