BARAMULLA, OCT 24: With online fraud and digital threats posing growing challenges, J&K Police organised a cyber awareness programme at Hillcrest School, Kreeri, to educate students and teachers about online safety, responsible internet use and preventive measures against cybercrime.

The programme focused on key digital threats, including online financial fraud, cyberbullying, misuse of social media and the unauthorised exposure of personal and sensitive information. Participants were also sensitised to the importance of maintaining cyber hygiene and recognising suspicious online activities before they result in financial loss or other harm.

Students were advised against sharing personal details with unknown individuals, clicking on suspicious links or engaging carelessly with unfamiliar online contacts. They were encouraged to report suspicious digital activity and cybercrime incidents promptly to their parents, teachers or the Police.

The initiative aimed to equip young internet users with practical knowledge to identify potential online risks and make informed decisions while using digital platforms. By engaging directly with students and teachers, the programme also highlighted the importance of awareness and timely reporting in preventing cybercrime.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to expanding cyber awareness initiatives among students and the wider community, stressing that responsible online behaviour and public cooperation are essential to building a safer digital environment.
