SAMBA, SEPT 18: A major bovine smuggling attempt was foiled on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after Ghagwal Police intercepted a tanker carrying 11 cattle in a cruelly tied condition, seizing the vehicle and launching a probe into the illegal transportation network.
Acting on credible information, a police team from Police Station Ghagwal laid a checking point at NHW Naka Tapyal and intercepted tanker JK02AG-7873, which was travelling from Kathua towards Samba.
During a detailed search, police found 11 bovines packed inside the vehicle and allegedly being transported without valid permission.
The rescued animals were taken into safe custody, while the tanker was seized as part of the investigation.
Police have registered FIR Number 93/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act at Police Station Ghagwal.
Investigators are now working to identify and trace all those involved in the transportation attempt.
The crackdown comes as Samba Police continues intensified action against bovine smuggling and illegal animal transportation, with the department making it clear that vehicles and persons found facilitating such activities will face stringent legal action.
