Srinagar, Oct 18: Two persons have been detained and a car seized after a Jammu and Kashmir-registered bus was attacked near a hotel in Haryana’s Karnal district, leaving a passenger injured and several windowpanes damaged, Haryana Police said on Sunday.
According to news agency ANI, Karnal District Police Control Room received information about an altercation and damage to bus windows at Divine Star Hotel, under the jurisdiction of Butana Police Station, at around 10 pm on October 17.
DSP Rajeev Kumar said a police team reached the spot and found that the incident had stemmed from a parking dispute between the bus driver and two local youth travelling in a car.
During the altercation, the two youth, identified as Mohit and Sawan, allegedly assaulted a passenger aboard the bus and smashed its windows with bricks, ANI quoted Kumar as having said.
Police asked the injured passenger and other occupants of the bus to lodge a formal complaint, but they declined to do so, following which the bus continued towards its destination, the officer said.
However, an FIR was subsequently registered after the police received a written complaint from the owner of a local eatery, Kumar said.
The two accused have been detained, while the car allegedly involved in the incident has also been seized, he said.
Kumar said police had found no other criminal offences during the incident and reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety.
The bus driver, speaking to ANI, alleged that one of the youths objected to the vehicle being parked there and used an offensive remark referring to its Jammu and Kashmir registration.
He also alleged that the youth assaulted him, damaged the bus’s front windshield and removed its rear number plate.
