2 J&K cyclists complete Leh-Khardung La ride in 12 hours

The ride, as per a statement issued, started from Leh City at 6:40 am. The two riders steadily made their way towards the world-famous Khardung La. They reached the Khardung La Top at 6:15 pm, after covering a demanding uphill route. After a brief halt, they began their descent at 6:35 pm.

The return journey continued into darkness, with the cyclists riding under headlights. They finally reached Leh City at 9:05 pm, completing approximately 80 kilometres in total.

Speaking about the experience, the riders said that the initial section of the route up to South Pullu was enjoyable and comparatively smooth. However, beyond South Pullu, the ride became a real test of physical strength, mental endurance and determination due to the steep gradients, thin air and extreme high-altitude conditions.

The expedition was monitored by Jammu & Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (JKMBA) President Riyaz Wani, who closely followed the progress of the riders.

The successful completion of the Leh–Khardung La ride highlights the growing spirit of adventure cycling in Jammu & Kashmir and demonstrates the capability of local cyclists to take on some of the most demanding high-altitude cycling routes in the Himalayas.
