NUBRA, SEPT 12, 2026: Additional Secretary and Mission Director, National Jal Jeevan Mission, Kamal Kishore Soan, along with Deputy Commissioner Nubra, Mukul Beniwal, today graced the Jal Arpan Diwas ceremony at Skampuk village, marking the formal transfer of community ownership and responsibility for the village water supply scheme under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The ceremony marked the formal handing over of scheme documents to the Gram Panchayat, signifying the transition of the water supply scheme to community ownership and strengthening the role of local institutions in its effective operation and maintenance.
Addressing the gathering, Kamal Kishore Soan called for collective community participation to strengthen the Jal Jeevan Mission, stressing the importance of conserving water sources and ensuring judicious use of the precious resource. He urged villagers to work together to safeguard the sustainability of the water supply scheme and ensure its long-term benefits.
Deputy Commissioner Nubra Mukul Beniwal briefed the gathering about the significance of Jal Arpan Diwas and emphasised the need for close coordination between the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) and the local community. He stressed that active community participation would be crucial for the effective operation, maintenance and sustainability of the JJM infrastructure.
The ceremony also saw all participants taking a pledge to use water judiciously and prevent wastage. Local residents actively participated in the programme and reaffirmed their commitment towards conserving water resources and ensuring the effective and sustainable functioning of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Skampuk village.
