LEH, SEPT 13: The spectacular landscape of Ladakh turned into a global sporting arena as more than 8,000 runners from across India and different parts of the world participated in the 13th Ladakh Marathon in Leh, celebrating endurance, determination and the spirit of adventure at high altitude.
Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena flagged off the 42-km Full Marathon and 21-km Half Marathon in Leh today, marking the commencement of the marquee races of the prestigious sporting event.
The marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from runners representing different regions of India as well as international participants, further strengthening the event’s reputation as one of the prominent high-altitude running events in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated all participants and appreciated the efforts of the organisers, volunteers and support teams for ensuring the successful conduct of the marathon.
The Ladakh Marathon, now in its 13th edition, has evolved into an internationally recognised sporting event, offering athletes a unique opportunity to compete against the backdrop of Ladakh’s rugged mountains, vast high-altitude plains and distinctive cultural landscape.
The event has also emerged as an important platform for showcasing Ladakh’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and traditional hospitality to visitors and athletes from around the world. The growing participation reflects the increasing global appeal of Ladakh as a destination for adventure sports and endurance events.
The challenging high-altitude terrain makes the Ladakh Marathon particularly demanding, requiring runners to demonstrate exceptional physical endurance, mental resilience and careful preparation. Despite the demanding conditions, thousands of participants turned out with enthusiasm, transforming the event into a vibrant celebration of sport and adventure.
The Lieutenant Governor extended his best wishes to every runner and expressed hope that participants would return from Ladakh carrying memorable experiences of the region and its people.
With more than 8,000 participants, the 13th Ladakh Marathon once again highlighted the region’s growing stature on the international sporting map while combining competitive athletics with tourism, cultural promotion and community participation.
