BJP J&K spokesperson Manzoor Bhat on Tuesday met BJP National Headquarters In-charge and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Tarun Chugh and discussed the prevailing political scenario in Jammu & Kashmir.

During the meeting, Bhat, as per a statement, highlighted growing public concerns over the functioning of the present government and stressed that Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections must be held at the earliest, as strengthening grassroots democracy remains the need of the hour.

Bhat said that the developmental initiatives undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past decade have been widely appreciated by the people. He said elected Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies are essential for ensuring that development reaches the grassroots and continues effectively.

He expressed concern over the National Conference government’s reluctance to hold these elections, saying that the people of J&K deserve empowered grassroots institutions, development and accountable governance.
