SRINAGAR, SEPT 16: Jammu and Kashmir Bank has cautioned its customers against a fresh wave of fraud involving fake eKYC applications and phishing links being circulated through WhatsApp, SMS and social media platforms.
According to the bank’s advisory, fraudsters are sending messages asking customers to update their KYC details through links or applications shared through unofficial channels.
The scammers may create a sense of urgency by claiming that a bank account will be blocked if KYC is not updated immediately.
The fraudulent applications or links may seek sensitive information such as Aadhaar and PAN details, bank account information and selfies, which can subsequently be misused for identity theft or financial fraud.
The bank has advised customers not to download applications from unknown sources or click on suspicious links received through messages or social media. Customers have also been warned never to disclose OTPs, PINs, passwords or other confidential banking credentials in response to such requests.
J&K Bank’s official anti-phishing guidance states that the bank does not ask customers to provide personal or account information through unsolicited emails and cautions users against links that appear to lead to genuine banking websites but actually redirect to counterfeit pages.
Customers have been advised to independently verify any KYC-related communication through official J&K Bank channels before taking action and to report suspicious calls or messages immediately.
For cyber-enabled financial fraud or unauthorised transactions, J&K Bank lists its 24-hour Contact Centre at 1800-890-2122 and advises customers to also contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930.
The bank has urged customers to remain vigilant and avoid responding to messages that use threats, urgency or account-blocking warnings to obtain sensitive information.
