Srinagar, Sep 7: The Srinagar Sports Festival 2026, organised by the National Sports Club, Rajbagh, under the aegis of Hockey Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, concluded on Monday at Scholars School, Dara Harwan, with an impressive closing ceremony.
The two-day festival, as per a statement, witnessed enthusiastic participation of young players in Hockey, Football, Swimming, Carrom and Athletics, along with the presence of several prominent national and international sports personalities who encouraged and motivated the participating youngsters.
In the Hockey Final, National Sports Club defeated Scholars School, Dara Harwan, by 4–2 in an exciting and competitive encounter to claim the title.
In the Football Final, Scholars School defeated Global School, Budgam, by 4–1 and emerged champions.
In Swimming, Scholars School dominated the competition by securing the first, second and third positions. In Carrom, Scholars School secured first position, Grover School second and Usmania School third.
The 1500-metre event was also dominated by Scholars School athletes, who secured all three positions.
The closing ceremony was attended by the SHO of the concerned Police Station as Chief Guest, while the Chairman, Scholars School, was the Guest of Honour. Principals and representatives of several schools, along with sports personalities, coaches, officials, parents and players, were present on the occasion.
The Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and distinguished sports personalities distributed gold, silver and other medals, along with trophies, among the winners and participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani, Secretary, National Sports Club, expressed sincere gratitude to all the players, parents, schools, principals, coaches, officials and volunteers for their valuable cooperation and contribution towards making the Srinagar Sports Festival 2026 a grand success.
He emphasised that sports and education should go hand in hand, and called upon parents and educational institutions to encourage children to excel both in academics and sports.
The festival provided a valuable platform for young athletes to demonstrate their talent while promoting discipline, teamwork, confidence, leadership and a healthy sporting spirit among children.
The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to promoting grassroots sports and providing greater opportunities to the young sporting talent of Jammu & Kashmir.
