Srinagar, Sep 23: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para on Wednesday said that data provided regarding issuance of reservation certificates in both divisions of Jammu and Kashmir, by Revenue Department in Legislative Assembly is “shocking”. He said the wide regional disparity in the issuance of certificates demands transparency and a detailed explanation.
Taking to micro-blogging site X, Para said: “Data for the last 8 years, provided by the J&K Revenue Department in response to my question, No. of reservation certificates issued since 2018. Exposes shocking figures.
JAMMU DIVISION: 14,17,028 certificates — 80.4%
KASHMIR DIVISION: 3,45,918 certificates — 19.6%
Total J&K: 17,63,946
PDP leader said the district-wise comparison is equally stark: Jammu: 1,98,910; Srinagar: 4,466; Rajouri: 4,37,479; Ganderbal: 20,556; Poonch: 3,24,753; Pulwama: 19,614; Kathua: 1,17,315; Shopian: 18,476; Kishtwar: 39,709; Bandipora: 22,325; Udhampur: 83,616; Kulgam: 26,760; Samba: 58,583; Anantnag: 52,086; Doda: 62,776; Baramulla: 73,379; Reasi: 53,023; and Kupwara: 80,289
14.17 lakh in Jammu Division vs 3.46 lakh in Kashmir Division.
The PDP legislator said these are official figures placed before the Assembly by the Revenue Department. “Such a wide regional disparity in the issuance of reservation certificates demands transparency and a detailed explanation,” MLA Para added.
