AMRITSAR, OCT 4: Amritsar Rural Police have busted an alleged illegal arms and explosives supply network, arresting one person and recovering an AK-47 rifle, magazine, live ammunition and two hand grenades in a major security operation.

The seizure, according to police, has brought an alleged weapons-supply channel under investigation, with preliminary findings pointing to suspected links with foreign-based smugglers. Investigators are examining how the accused allegedly procured the prohibited weapons and where the consignment was intended to be supplied.

A case has been registered at Gharinda Police Station under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act. Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the source of the weapons, intended recipients and wider backward and forward linkages of the alleged network.

The recovery of an AK-47 along with grenades and ammunition has added a serious dimension to the case, prompting investigators to examine whether the arrested accused was operating independently or as part of a larger organised supply chain.

Amritsar Rural Police said further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved and dismantle the network supplying illegal arms and explosives. The Punjab Police reiterated that strict surveillance and sustained action against illegal arms trafficking and organised criminal networks remain a priority.
