Sangam Police tightens drug net, peddler held with cannabis near NH-44

ANANTNAG, OCT 4: In a targeted action against the illegal drug trade, Sangam Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered 9.25 grams of charas during naka checking on the G.B. Khalil Naina Road near NH-44 at Sangam.

The accused has been identified as Majid Fayaz Lone, son of Fayaz Ahmad Lone, resident of Gousia Colony, Kulgam. Police said the naka party intercepted him during checking and conducted a personal search, leading to the recovery of the suspected contraband.

Following the recovery, FIR Number 280/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station, and further investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband.

The action underscores Sangam Police’s intensified field-level crackdown on drug trafficking and narcotics movement along the NH-44 corridor, with naka checking being used to intercept suspected movement of illicit substances.
