Shopian, Oct 7: Shopian Police is promoting girls’ participation in sports through a badminton tournament organised under its Civic Action Programme, bringing together school teams from across the district and providing students an opportunity to compete, build confidence and develop teamwork.

For the girls of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sedow, the badminton court became more than a venue for competition. It offered them an opportunity to test their skills, build confidence and experience the excitement of playing as a team.

The school emerged victorious in a girls’ badminton tournament.

The event brought together teams from several schools across the district and provided students with a platform to compete in a structured and encouraging environment.

The final was played between the teams of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Heerpora, and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sedow. The match featured competitive rallies, determined play and enthusiastic support from those present. After a closely contested contest, the Sedow team secured the title.

For the participating students, the tournament was an opportunity to showcase their abilities beyond the classroom. It also encouraged them to view sport as an important part of their development rather than merely an extracurricular activity.

Badminton, like other sports, can help young people develop discipline, concentration and resilience.

For girls in particular, participation in sporting events can create opportunities to interact with students from other schools, work collectively and gain confidence in public settings.
