MLA Lal Chowk, Ahsan Pardesi, on Monday raised the need for new water supply schemes and augmentation of the existing infrastructure to meet the growing demand for drinking water in SD Colony, Alochi Bagh, Batmaloo and adjoining areas of the Lal Chowk constituency in the Assembly.
While raising the matter, Ahsan Pardesi, as per a statement issued, acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the concerned Jal Shakti department in providing water supply to these areas within the available resources.
He, however, emphasised that with the growing population and increasing demand, the existing system needs further augmentation and additional water sources must be created to ensure adequate and reliable supply.
In its reply, the Government informed the House that two new Water Treatment Plants—5.5 MGD at Alsteng and 5.0 MGD at Rangil—are under execution and are expected to be commissioned during the current year. Their commissioning is expected to significantly improve the water supply situation in the concerned areas. The Government also referred to the ongoing construction of two overhead water tanks at Danderkha and Alochi Bagh.
