ANANTNAG, OCT 31: In a major action aimed at striking at the financial roots of drug trafficking, Anantnag Police have attached two residential properties worth approximately ₹2.5 crore in Srigufwara and Ashmuqam, taking their campaign against the narcotics trade beyond arrests and conventional investigations.

The two properties, comprising double-storey residential buildings, belong to individuals facing NDPS-related cases and have been attached under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In the first action, Police Station Srigufwara attached a double-storey house valued at around ₹1 crore at Shitipora, belonging to Ab Rashid Bhat, son of Asadullah Bhat. The attachment was executed under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. Bhat is an accused in case FIR Number 39/2026 registered under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Act.

In the second operation, Anantnag Police attached another two-storey residential building, estimated to be worth ₹1.5 crore, belonging to Mohd Yousaf alias Shabir Ahmed, son of Mohd Akram, resident of Frastwar, Ashmuqam. The proceedings were carried out under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act under the supervision of SDPO Pahalgam, in the presence of the area Chowkidar and Numberdar.

The combined valuation of the attached properties stands at approximately ₹2.5 crore, marking a significant financial enforcement action against assets allegedly linked to proceeds of illicit drug activities.

The latest operations underline the district police’s strategy of targeting the economic interests and suspected proceeds associated with narcotics networks, rather than restricting enforcement to the arrest of individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

By pursuing property attachment proceedings, Anantnag Police are seeking to disrupt the financial resources that sustain the drug trade and deter the acquisition of assets through illegal activities.

Police reiterated that the crackdown against narcotics trafficking and its associated financial networks would continue, with a sustained focus on dismantling the drug ecosystem and advancing the campaign for a drug-free society.
