AWANTIPORA, OCT 20: With cybercrime and online fraud posing growing challenges to digital security, Police District Awantipora organised cyber awareness programmes at Awantipora and Khrew to sensitise participants about emerging online threats, financial frauds and preventive measures for protecting personal and financial information.
The programmes focused on strengthening public awareness of cybercriminal tactics and encouraging citizens to exercise greater caution while using internet-based services, social media platforms and digital payment facilities. Through these outreach initiatives, police sought to familiarise participants with common methods employed by fraudsters and highlight the importance of timely reporting of suspicious online activities.
During the sessions, participants were educated about phishing scams, fraudulent online transactions and attempts by cybercriminals to obtain confidential information through misleading messages, suspicious links and deceptive communications. Emphasis was laid on verifying the authenticity of online requests, avoiding the disclosure of sensitive personal and banking details, and exercising caution before engaging with unknown individuals or unverified digital platforms.
The awareness programmes also highlighted the importance of responsible social media usage and protecting personal information from misuse. Participants were encouraged to remain alert to suspicious online offers and communications, recognise potential warning signs of cyber fraud and adopt precautionary practices to minimise the risk of financial loss and identity misuse.
Police further stressed the importance of promptly reporting cybercrime incidents through appropriate channels, enabling complaints to be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities for necessary action. Public cooperation and timely information-sharing were highlighted as important elements in addressing cyber offences and preventing others from falling victim to similar fraudulent schemes.
The programmes at Awantipora and Khrew formed part of Police District Awantipora’s public outreach efforts to promote digital literacy and build a more informed and vigilant community capable of responding to evolving cyber threats.
Awantipora Police reiterated their commitment to public awareness, cybercrime prevention and digital safety, urging citizens to remain vigilant, use online platforms responsibly and report suspected cyber fraud without delay.
