BARAMULLA, SEPT 11: Intensifying enforcement against the use of banned single-use plastic and polythene, Police Station Boniyar, in coordination with the Tehsildar Boniyar, BDO Boniyar and BMO Boniyar, conducted a joint inspection drive at Boniyar Main Market on Friday.
During the inspection, the joint team seized approximately 4 kg of polythene found in violation of the prescribed norms. The enforcement drive also resulted in the issuance of seven challans amounting to ₹650 against violators.
The coordinated action was aimed at ensuring compliance with the ban on single-use plastic and discouraging practices that contribute to environmental pollution.
Officials also observed encouraging changes among shopkeepers and members of the public, with increased adoption of plastic alternatives during the inspection. The positive response was seen as an indication of growing awareness about the environmental impact of polythene and the importance of reducing plastic consumption.
Police said enforcement drives would continue in coordination with the concerned civil departments to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and promote responsible public participation.
The initiative also underscores the administration and police’s focus on maintaining cleaner markets, reducing plastic waste and creating a healthier and more environmentally sustainable environment in the region.
