JAMMU, OCT 17: Intensifying its crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, Bishnah Police apprehended a man and recovered approximately 9 grams of suspected heroin (chitta) during routine patrolling in the Bishnah area of Jammu district.

The recovery was made when a police party from Police Station Bishnah was conducting routine patrolling in the areas of Tara Chowk, K.C. Morh and Ring Road to keep a check on suspicious activities and curb the movement of narcotics.

According to the details, when the police party reached near Mahajan Electronics, a person approaching from the Ring Road side allegedly attempted to turn back upon noticing the police personnel, apparently to avoid checking. Acting promptly, the police party intercepted him before he could escape.

During the checking, the suspect allegedly attempted to throw a yellow-coloured polythene packet into a nearby canal. However, the alert police personnel immediately secured the packet and examined its contents, leading to the recovery of approximately 9 grams of a heroin-like substance suspected to be heroin (chitta).

The accused was identified as Vinay Verma, son of late Krishan Lal, resident of Ward No. 6, K.C. Morh, Bishnah.

Following the recovery, a case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Bishnah. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the suspected contraband, ascertain the intended destination and examine whether other individuals are involved in the alleged narcotics trade.

The action forms part of Jammu Police’s continuing efforts to identify and apprehend individuals allegedly involved in drug trafficking and prevent narcotic substances from reaching vulnerable sections of society, particularly the youth.

Jammu Police has reiterated its commitment to combating the drug menace and urged members of the public to share credible information regarding drug trafficking and other unlawful activities, assuring that public cooperation remains crucial in strengthening anti-narcotics operations.

The suspected substance will be subject to legal and forensic procedures as part of the ongoing investigation.
