JAMMU, SEPT 18: BJP spokesperson Rajni Sethi on Friday demanded a fair, impartial, transparent and time-bound investigation into the death of Deepak Sharma in the Resham Ghar Colony area of Jammu, urging police to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal gunshot incident without jumping to any conclusion.
Sharma, a newspaper vendor and resident of Resham Ghar Colony, died on Thursday after sustaining a gunshot injury to the head. Police have initiated an investigation, with reports indicating that the circumstances of the firing, including whether it was accidental, self-inflicted or involved another person, remain under probe.
Expressing deep anguish over the death, Sethi said the loss of a father of two children had left the family devastated. She conveyed condolences to Sharma’s mother, wife and children and said the BJP stood with the bereaved family during the difficult period.
Sethi said the family was seeking clarity about how their loved one lost his life and urged the investigating authorities to examine every aspect of the case objectively and scientifically. She said a prompt and professional investigation was essential to establish the facts and provide clarity to the grieving family.
She stressed that no motive or cause should be attributed to the death until the investigation establishes the facts through evidence. She called for examination of the crime scene, forensic material, post-mortem findings, CCTV footage, witness statements and all other relevant evidence.
Reports on the incident have carried differing accounts of the circumstances. While some reports cited police suspicion of suicide or accidental firing, relatives have raised questions and alleged that Sharma may have been killed by an unidentified person. These claims remain subject to investigation.
Sethi also appealed to the public to exercise restraint and refrain from circulating rumours, speculation or unverified claims on social media, saying that the truth should emerge through the ongoing investigation and not through competing versions of the incident.
She expressed confidence that the police would complete the probe in a time-bound manner and establish the facts, while reiterating the BJP’s support for the bereaved family.
