ANANTNAG, SEPT 15: A brother and sister were seriously injured on Monday evening after a wild bear attacked them while they were picking apples in their family orchard in Kralmad area of Dooru in Anantnag district.
The injured were identified as 23-year-old Aabid Nazir and his 16-year-old sister Sehrish Nazir, children of Nazir Ahmad Rather, residents of Kralmad, Dooru.
According to locals, the siblings were picking apples when the bear suddenly appeared and attacked them.
Both sustained serious injuries and were shifted for medical treatment.
Wildlife authorities reached the area and launched an operation to trap the animal, officials said.
The attack comes amid a spike in bear attacks across Kashmir since the start of apple harvesting.
At least two people have been killed and more than 45 injured in bear attacks across the Valley.
The increased bear movement near orchards has raised concern among residents as apple harvesting activity has intensified across Kashmir.
