Srinagar, Oct 27: Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma on Tuesday criticised the cabinet expansion, alleging that the government had failed to maintain regional and cultural balance.
Speaking to reporters after the induction of four new ministers into Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government, Sharma congratulated the newly inducted ministers but said governments must represent all regions and sections of society.
“Governments are formed not just to win elections. Governments have to take every section along. Every region, every area has to be taken along. Religious, regional and cultural balance has to be maintained. Today, that was not seen,” Sharma said.
About the removal of the portfolio held by cabinet minister Satish Sharma, the BJP leader said it was too early to comment.
“Right now, it would not be appropriate to say anything,” he said, adding that he would first congratulate the new ministers.
About discontent within the NC over the cabinet expansion, Sharma said the matter concerned the party internally and had nothing to do with him.
“Who is upset and who is happy with them is none of our concern. This is their organisation’s internal matter,” he said.
About his earlier remark that the NC would split on the day of the cabinet expansion, Sharma urged patience, saying only a few minutes had passed since the ceremony.
“Have some patience. Please be patient; you will get to know everything,” he said.
