AKHNOOR, OCT 30: J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma on Friday accused Congress of creating political confusion and questioning constitutional institutions out of frustration over its declining public support. Addressing a gathering of prominent citizens organised by the BJP’s Akhnoor district unit under the theme “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao”, he strongly defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, questioning Congress’s opposition to efforts aimed at ensuring clean and transparent voter lists.
Sat Sharma, accompanied by MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat, District Prabhari Vinay Gupta and District President Kuldeep Sharma, alleged that Congress leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, was resorting to misinformation and baseless allegations instead of presenting a constructive political alternative.
Questioning the party’s objections to electoral roll revision, he said identifying duplicate, deceased, shifted and ineligible entries was essential for ensuring free and fair elections while protecting the voting rights of every eligible citizen.
“Why does Congress become uncomfortable whenever electoral rolls are scrutinised? Is its political survival dependent on questionable entries and bogus voting?” Sat Sharma asked.
He further pointed out that intensive electoral roll revisions had been conducted during several earlier periods, including under Congress-led governments, arguing that a legitimate democratic exercise should not become controversial merely because it was being undertaken by the present government.
MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat accused Congress of manufacturing controversy around constitutional processes rather than addressing public concerns. Kuldeep Sharma stressed the need for the intellectual community to counter misinformation and promote informed public participation.
The gathering was attended by several prominent citizens and representatives of the local community.
