According to neighbours and relatives present at the scene, Mir collapsed suddenly in the afternoon during the solemn rites.

He was rushed immediately to a nearby hospital, where attending doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.

The heartbreaking loss comes on the heels of an earlier tragedy that struck the family on September 12, when Mir’s 29-year-old son, Naseer Ahmad Mir, and his 3-year-old grandson, Hadi Ali, were killed in a horrific road mishap in the Soibugh area of Budgam.

Naseer’s wife, Dilshada Akhter (26), suffered critical injuries in the same crash and remains under medical care in the hospital.

The news of successive deaths within a span of four days has sent shockwaves throughout the region, leaving local residents and extended family in profound mourning.
