Janta Dal (United) Jammu & Kashmir State President G M Shaheen has called upon the authorities to seriously consider the prevailing situation in Jammu & Kashmir and take steps in the larger interest of the people.
Shaheen, as per a statement issued on Saturday, said that direct administration under the Lieutenant Governor would, in his view, be more effective than the present elected dispensation if the government is unable to adequately address the growing concerns of ordinary citizens. He said that people are looking for effective governance, development, employment opportunities, better roads, reliable public services and timely resolution of their grievances.
“People cannot be expected to remain silent when their genuine issues continue to affect their daily lives. Governance must be judged by delivery on the ground, not merely by political statements,” Shaheen said.
He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to examine, within the constitutional and legal framework, whether dissolution of the Legislative Assembly and a period of direct administration would better serve public welfare. The J&K Reorganisation Act provides for a five-year term of the Legislative Assembly unless it is sooner dissolved.
