KULGAM, OCT 4: Team Hatipora emerged champions of the T20 Cricket Tournament organised by J&K Police in Kulgam under the Civic Action Programme 2026-27, defeating Team Kujjar in an exciting final at the Sports Ground Behibagh.
The tournament brought together 16 teams from different parts of Kulgam district, providing local young cricketers with a competitive platform to showcase their talent while promoting discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition.
The concluding ceremony was attended by DySP DAR Kulgam, DySP PC Hatipora, SHO Police Station Behibagh and other senior police officers. The officers interacted with the participating players and appreciated the enthusiasm, discipline and sporting spirit displayed throughout the tournament.
The final saw Team Hatipora produce a determined performance to overcome Team Kujjar and secure the championship. Their title-winning campaign was marked by effective teamwork, discipline and competitive spirit, earning them the tournament trophy along with a cash prize of ₹20,000.
The runners-up, Team Kujjar, were presented with a trophy and cash prize of ₹10,000 for their impressive run in the competition. Individual excellence was also recognised, with the Man of the Series felicitated with a trophy and cash award for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
Besides providing a platform for sporting talent, the initiative served as an important community-engagement exercise, bringing police officers, young players and local residents together in a positive environment.
Police officers said such sporting initiatives help identify and encourage grassroots sporting talent while providing youth with constructive avenues to utilise their energy and abilities. They also highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, teamwork, perseverance and a sense of healthy competition among young people.
During the concluding interaction, youth and participants were also urged to remain away from drugs and other harmful activities, with officers emphasising the importance of sports and other constructive pursuits in building a healthier and more productive society.
The Kulgam Police expressed gratitude to the local community for its wholehearted support and participation in making the tournament successful, stressing that sustained public participation is essential for strengthening trust and cooperation between the police and citizens.
The tournament concluded with the distribution of trophies, medals, mementos and cash prizes, bringing the sporting event to a successful close.
The initiative reflects J&K Police’s continued focus on people-friendly policing, youth outreach and community participation, with the Civic Action Programme providing a platform to strengthen Police-Public relations through sustained engagement beyond conventional policing activities.
