Srinagar, Oct 7: As part of the ongoing nationwide “Save Democracy Week” and “Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao” campaign, senior leaders of the INDIA Bloc Wednesday held a joint press conference at the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Headquarters, Congress Bhawan, 5-M.A. Road, Srinagar, reaffirming their collective commitment to protecting the Constitution, democratic institutions and the integrity of the electoral process.
The joint press conference, as per a statement, was addressed by senior representatives of the alliance, including Advocate Bashir Ahmad Magray, Former MLA/MLC and In-Charge, JKPCC Headquarters, Srinagar; Dr. Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan), President, District Congress Committee Srinagar, Advocate Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, Senior Leader, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC); Dr. Syed Ahmad, JKNC; Ghulam Nabi Hanjura, General Secretary (Organisation), Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP); and Advocate Wahid Sultan Dar, District Secretary Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)].
Addressing the media, the INDIA Bloc leaders said that “Save Democracy Week” represents a united democratic effort to safeguard the constitutional values of the country and to ensure that democratic institutions function independently, impartially and in accordance with the Constitution.
The leaders expressed serious concern over what they described as the weakening and politicization of constitutional and democratic institutions, stressing that the strength of any democracy depends upon the independence of its institutions and the confidence of citizens in the electoral process.
They emphasised that free, fair, transparent and credible elections are the foundation of a functioning democracy. The people’s vote, they said, is not merely a means of choosing a government but a fundamental expression of the will of the people, and its sanctity must be protected at all costs.
The leaders said that the “Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao” campaign goes beyond the political interests of any individual party. It is a collective democratic call to protect the constitutional rights of citizens, ensure transparency in the electoral process and uphold the principle that every vote must carry equal value and every voter’s choice must be respected.
