PUNE, OCT 23: India and Ethiopia have taken a significant step towards strengthening bilateral defence cooperation with the successful conclusion of the inaugural Army-to-Army Staff Talks between the Indian Army and the Ethiopian Army in Pune, providing a new platform for structured military engagement, professional exchanges and expanded cooperation between the two forces.

The talks focused on enhancing military-to-military engagement, capacity building, professional training, defence technology and innovation, while exploring new avenues for collaboration to address evolving defence requirements. The inaugural engagement reflects the shared interest of both armies in strengthening institutional ties and expanding cooperation through sustained dialogue and knowledge exchange.

As part of the engagement, the Ethiopian Army delegation visited Indian defence industries to gain first-hand insights into India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities, technological advancements and expanding start-up ecosystem. The visit showcased India’s growing defence production base and its efforts to promote self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The interaction also provided an opportunity for the Ethiopian delegation to familiarise itself with India’s evolving defence industrial ecosystem, including the role of domestic industries and emerging enterprises in developing innovative solutions for the armed forces.

The conclusion of the inaugural staff talks marks an important milestone in India-Ethiopia military relations, opening avenues for deeper professional interaction, capability development and cooperation in defence-related fields. Such engagements contribute to mutual understanding, institutional capacity building and the exchange of experiences between partner armed forces.

Both armies reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and nurturing longstanding ties of friendship. The initiative underscores India’s broader efforts to expand military partnerships with friendly countries through professional exchanges, indigenous defence capabilities and mutually beneficial cooperation.
