DUBAI, SEPT 13: India will take on defending champions Sri Lanka in a high-stakes final of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium tonight, with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side aiming to reclaim the continental crown and secure a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title.
The summit clash, scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST, is a repeat of the 2024 final, when Sri Lanka stunned India by eight wickets to win their maiden Women’s Asia Cup title. India will therefore enter the contest with an added incentive to overturn that result, while Sri Lanka will be determined to retain the trophy.
Both teams have been unbeaten throughout the 2026 tournament. India reached the final after defeating Bangladesh by 40 runs in the semi-final, while Sri Lanka secured a four-wicket victory over Pakistan to book their place in the title clash.
India have been particularly impressive with the bat. Shafali Verma has scored 168 runs, while vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has accumulated 154 runs, including a spectacular century against Hong Kong. Their aggressive opening partnership will be crucial against a Sri Lankan bowling attack expected to rely heavily on spin.
With the ball, Deepti Sharma has emerged as one of India’s key match-winners, taking 11 wickets in the tournament. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu has also taken 11 wickets and remains a major threat with both bat and ball.
Sri Lanka’s road to the final has also been impressive. After comfortable wins earlier in the competition, they showed considerable composure in the semi-final against Pakistan, recovering from early setbacks to chase down 131 with four wickets to spare. Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari and Nilakshika Silva have provided important contributions in their campaign.
The Dubai pitch could make spin a decisive factor. Reports from the tournament indicate that the surface has offered grip and occasional uneven bounce, making stroke-making challenging and increasing the importance of disciplined bowling through the middle overs.
For India, the final represents an opportunity to add another chapter to their remarkable Asia Cup record. India have won seven of the nine completed editions and have appeared in every final since the tournament began in 2004. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, will be looking to prove that their 2024 triumph was the beginning of a new era of dominance.
