SRINAGAR, SEPT 12: J&K Police intensified its crackdown on the illegal drug trade, arresting three alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Kulgam, Anantnag and Pulwama, while recovering heroin, cannabis-like substances and cash from their possession.
In Kulgam, police apprehended a suspect during naka checking at Lassipora Crossing under Police Post Mir Bazar after he allegedly attempted to flee on noticing the police party. He was chased and apprehended, following which a search led to the recovery of a polythene packet containing approximately 171 grams of cannabis-like substance.
The accused was identified as Mudasir Khursheed Laigroo, son of Khursheed Ahmad Laigroo, a resident of Sherpora, Anantnag. Police said he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the recovered substance.
A case has been registered at Police Station Qazigund, and further investigation is underway to establish the source and intended destination of the contraband.
In Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Anantnag apprehended Ajaz Ahmad Malik, son of Dilwar Malik, resident of Old Qazibagh, Mattan Chowk, during checking near Sports Stadium. His search resulted in the recovery of 3.15 grams of heroin and 4.44 grams of cannabis.
Police have registered FIR Number 301/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Anantnag, with investigation underway.
Meanwhile, in Pulwama, police intercepted Ateef Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, resident of Babademb, Khanyar, presently residing at Pirbagh, Srinagar, during naka checking on Circular Road near Sirnoo Crossing.
Approximately 6 grams of heroin-like substance and ₹5,000 in cash were recovered from his possession.
The contraband and cash were seized as per procedure, while FIR Number 183/2026 was registered at Police Station Pulwama under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Police said investigations in all three cases are being pursued to trace the sources of the narcotics and establish further linkages in the illegal drug network.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information about the illegal sale, transportation and distribution of narcotic substances.
