Mattan Police nabs NDPS absconder wanted since 2009

ANANTNAG, SEPT 13: In a major breakthrough in its drive against absconders, Mattan Police, in coordination with Rajasthan Police, has arrested an accused who had been evading arrest for nearly 17 years in an NDPS case.

A police team from Police Station Mattan apprehended Shabir Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd. Shahbaz Khan, resident of Nai Basti, Khanabal, near Showkat Gas Agency, presently residing at Gopalpora, Mattan.

Khan was wanted in FIR Number 09/2009 registered at GRP Abu Road, District Sirohi, Rajasthan, under the NDPS Act in connection with the alleged transportation of 4.5 kg of cannabis, which was reportedly being taken for delivery to Ahmedabad.

The NDPS Court, District Sirohi, Rajasthan, had issued an arrest warrant against him, following which he remained absconding since 2009.

Acting on specific intelligence developed through sustained efforts, the Mattan police team tracked down and apprehended the accused from Gopalpora, Mattan. He has been taken into custody and the concerned authorities in Rajasthan have been informed for further legal proceedings.

Anantnag Police said it remains committed to tracing absconders and ensuring that those evading the law are brought to justice.
