New Delhi, Oct 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the ideals of Lord Shri Ram remained a benchmark for good governance, stressing that the purpose of power was not to rule but to ensure public welfare. Addressing Vijayadashami celebrations at the Indraprastha Ramleela Ground in Delhi, PM Modi said Ram Rajya represented a system in which nobody faced discrimination, everyone received justice and all had equal opportunities.
“Ram Rajya means a system of governance where no one is discriminated against, everyone receives justice, everyone has equal opportunities, and the purpose of power is not merely to rule, but to serve the welfare of the people,” he said, as reported by PTI.
The Prime Minister said Lord Ram faced numerous difficulties but never abandoned the path of truth and righteousness. He also recalled Ram’s respect for Nishadraj and Mata Shabari, saying his life set examples of compassion, kindness, love and social harmony.
PM Modi said Vijayadashami celebrated the victory of good over evil and reminded people of the enduring strength of truth and righteousness.
“No matter how powerful the enemy is, when we stand with truth and humanity, victory will ultimately be ours,” he said.
He also called for greater self-reliance, saying Lord Ram had taught people to find solutions to problems using their own resources.
“Our goal is to make India fully self-reliant as that is how a country can progress,” PM Modi said, adding that even a major crisis should not prevent people from moving forward or leave them dependent on others.
The Prime Minister said the welfare of the poor and deprived sections remained a government priority. He also warned against forces that harm the country’s interests, divide society or show hostility towards India’s culture, describing them as enemies of the nation.
PM Modi said the ideals of Lord Ram continued to offer guidance on good governance, social harmony and the responsibility of those in power to work for the welfare of the people.
