KATHUA, OCT 22: Intensifying its crackdown on narcotics trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir campaign, Police have arrested a suspected drug smuggler and seized approximately 21 grams of a heroin-like substance during a special checkpoint operation in the Chak Gossain area of Chadwal in Kathua district.

The seizure was made when a police team from Police Station Rajbagh, assisted by the Incharge Police Post Chadwal, established a special naka at Chak Gossain to check the movement of suspicious persons and curb the transportation of narcotic substances.

During the operation, police intercepted a person identified as Zakir Hussain, son of Noor Ali, a resident of Zaindul, Bhaderwah, in Doda district, presently residing at Ragoora, Sidhra, Jammu. He was reportedly travelling from the Haria Chak side towards Chak Gossain when the police team stopped him for checking.

During his personal search, approximately 21 grams of a heroin-like substance, commonly known as chitta, were allegedly recovered from his possession. The suspected contraband was seized on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.

Following the recovery, Police Station Rajbagh registered FIR Number 233/2026 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to establish the source of the suspected narcotics, identify the intended recipients and ascertain the forward and backward linkages of the alleged drug supply network.

Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged transportation of the substance and determine whether other individuals were involved in the supply chain. The investigation aims to establish the wider connections, if any, behind the recovery.

Kathua Police reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing credible information about the sale, transportation or distribution of narcotic substances.

The police have appealed to the public to report suspected drug-related activities through emergency helpline 112 or contact 9858034100, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.

The operation forms part of the ongoing efforts by J&K Police to curb narcotics trafficking and strengthen action against the drug menace across the district.
