Rajouri, Oct 28: Non-teaching employees of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), the lone university in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, continued their strike for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
The employees, who began their protest on Tuesday, staged a dharna on the university campus under the slogan “Save our university, save our livelihood.” They said they had been raising their demands through peaceful and appropriate channels for years, but it did not lead to any concrete action to address their grievances.
The protesting employees said, “Every employee has certain basic service rights that must be fulfilled in a timely manner.”
However, they alleged that staff members at BGSBU were still struggling to secure even their basic entitlements despite repeatedly bringing the issues to the notice of the university administration.
The major demands include timely disbursement of salaries, with employees alleging that payments are frequently delayed, sometimes for several months. They have also sought the release of pending Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and child allowance, stating that these issues have remained unresolved for years.
Another key demand relates to the settlement of pending cases under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), issuance of promotion orders and release of admissible monetary and other service-related benefits. The employees have also called for the implementation of SRO 333, alleging that the absence of a proper promotion policy for several years has left many staff members facing uncertainty over their career progression.
