JAMMU, OCT 21: Tightening its crackdown on narcotics trafficking and suspected cross-border smuggling networks, Jammu Police has recovered 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia under Operation Sanjeevani, with preliminary investigation indicating a possible link to a drone-based drug smuggling module.

The recovery follows an investigation initiated by Police Station R.S. Pura after receiving information about alleged narcotics consumption in the Kotli Mirdian area of Tehsil Suchetgarh. Police are now pursuing leads to establish the origin of the seized contraband, trace its intended recipients and identify the wider network allegedly involved in the trafficking operation.

The case was registered, after police received information regarding the alleged consumption of narcotics by Sunny Kumar, 26, son of Tarsem Lal, a resident of Kotli Mirdian, near a ditch in his village. Acting on the information, Police Station R.S. Pura registered FIR Number 186/2026 under Sections 8, 18, 21, 22 and 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and initiated an investigation.

During the course of the investigation and subsequent questioning, police developed leads concerning the alleged involvement of the accused in a narcotics smuggling module linked to a drone-dropping incident. Acting on the information gathered, a police team led by the SHO, R.S. Pura, pursued the leads, culminating in the recovery of 804 grams of heroin and 1.114 kilograms of opium from the Talhar area of Sector Arnia.

The recovery has provided investigators with further leads to examine the suspected trafficking operation and determine the possible connections between the seized narcotics and the alleged smuggling module.

Preliminary findings have pointed towards a suspected cross-border nexus involving the use of drones to transport narcotics into Indian territory. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged drone-dropping incident and working to establish the source of the consignment, the individuals who may have facilitated its movement and the intended recipients.

Investigators are also examining the backward and forward linkages of the suspected network to determine whether additional persons were involved in receiving, transporting or distributing the narcotics.

The alleged cross-border connections remain under investigation, and further evidence will be required to establish the roles of the individuals involved.

The action under Operation Sanjeevani highlights Jammu Police’s continued efforts to combat drug trafficking and investigate suspected networks operating through covert cross-border channels. The recovery of heroin and opium has intensified the focus on identifying the wider supply chain and establishing whether the suspected module has links to other trafficking operations.

Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network, identify all persons allegedly involved and establish the facts surrounding the suspected drone-assisted smuggling operation.

Jammu Police remains committed to sustained action against the drug menace and the narco-terror threat, with the ongoing investigation aimed at dismantling trafficking networks and bringing those responsible to justice.
