SHOPIAN, OCT 31: In a district-wide initiative aimed at strengthening public safety and preventing the misuse of mobile communication services, Shopian Police conducted inspections of SIM card vendors across the district to ensure strict adherence to prescribed verification and documentation procedures.
The inspection drive focused on checking compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, verifying customer records and examining the documentation maintained by vendors for the sale and activation of SIM cards. The exercise was carried out by jurisdictional police officers across different areas of the district.
During the inspections, SIM card vendors were sensitised about their legal and regulatory responsibilities, particularly the importance of following mandatory customer verification protocols and preventing unauthorised issuance of SIM cards.
Shopian Police cautioned vendors against any violation of the prescribed guidelines, warning that non-compliance or involvement in unauthorised SIM card issuance would invite strict legal action under applicable laws.
The police also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or irregularities concerning the sale, issuance or misuse of SIM cards to the nearest police establishment.
The initiative is part of Shopian Police’s efforts to strengthen verification mechanisms, promote responsible use of communication services and prevent their potential misuse for unlawful activities.
